A Modern Take On An Old Classic Says "If The Chainsaw Isn't Broke, Don't Fix It"

NetFlix Continues To Slaughter The 'Same-Day Streaming' Competition With Another Horror Hit:

As most of you probably know by now, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot is alive and well. Not only that, but if you're one of the millions of viewers who subscribe to the streaming giant

NetFlix then you're in luck - they now own the rights to the latest installment. What does this mean? Well, anyone who already has NetFlix will get to watch the film on the same day it releases, and anyone who wants to see it on release day & is still avoiding the theaters can do so for less than $20. A great price, considering how many outstanding shows & films are currently available on the channel and the perfect follow up to it's first premier release, Zack

Snyder's Army of the Dead!

Director Fede Alvarez Reinvigorates The Franchise With A Direct Sequel To The Horror Classic:

Anyone who grew up watching Horror films, or has a rich knowledge of cinema, is undoubtedly familiar with the Tobe Hooper classic from 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You likely also know that it spawned several sequels & remakes, some worthy of the name, while others not so much.

But The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has always been a different breed of Slasher/Horror entertainment, it's not your typical unstoppable, supernatural masked killer. Leatherface, the chainsaw wielding maniac that carries the film's namesake, is very human and based in reality, sharing the same inspiration for well known films such as The Silence of the Lambs and the classic Hitchcock film, Psycho. The diabolically backwood Hewitt family are borne from the true crimes of killer Ed Gein, and if you're not familiar with ol' Ed, you might want to Google that name . . . after this article, of course.

This, the 9th chapter in the franchise, will be released by Legendary

Pictures and was actually filmed in Bulgaria with Fede Alvarez as head

director, whose recent accomplishments include the ultra violent remake of Evil Dead & the surprise hit, Don't Breath. The screenplay itself was written by the talented Chris Thomas Devlin. Titled simply 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', this will be a direct sequel to the original 1974 film, much like the latest installments in the Halloween franchise. But, considering how much chaos was crammed into the original 83 min. film, there's a lot of ground to cover.

So far there are several actors/actresses attached to the film and with such a large cast of characters it's safe to assume there will be mush dismemberment and mayhem to ensue. In the words of Alvarez himself, which is to say quite a lot, the newest Texas Chainsaw film is

". . . just what the fans want . . . and is so depraved it will stay with you forever . . ."

Filming for the movie, which is Rated R for strong violence & gore, has already been neatly wrapped, and there is plenty of buzz & speculation surrounding the release date, which could be as early as October of this year! With so many rumors there's only one thing for certain, whether it lives up to the glory of the original film or the widely accepted 2003 remake, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has always offered a special brand of madness that only it can deliver, and it doesn't sound like the reboot is aiming to disappoint it's ravenous fanbase!

REVIEW

By now you've already either seen the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Netflix, or read a flurry of mixed reviews on social media! Personally, it was a roller coaster. When I learned they were taking a 'Halloween' approach by reintroducing Sally & 'Old Man Leatherface' I was initially put-off, it felt like the wrong time. Turns out my reservations were right & wrong . . .

To date I won't go so far as to call this the BEST Texas Chainsaw Massacre film yet, but I definitely can't condemn it as the worst. On a separate note, this does happen to be my personal favorite version of Leatherface, himself. The writers/directors took great attention to detail and pulled from the original 74' film in many creative ways. There were several satisfying moments of depravity, most of which contributed to the story in some way. The atmosphere was equal parts sun & gloom and there were even a few poignant moments where Modern & Classic Slasher Horror collided with hilarious & gory results!

The Ending . . . well, let's just say proper homage was paid and whatever comes next in the TCM universe has one hell of a climax to live up to - if we're talkin' 5 Star review, I wouldn't go as high as 5 but no less than 3 & 1/2!
